Maddy Curley's Biography
Maddy Curley was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida. From a young age, Maddy showed potential in acting with roles in “The Wizard of Oz” and “The Sound of Music.” It was obvious to Maddy and her family that she loved to perform and be on stage. Even in her spare time, Maddy would make up skits with her friends and cousins and then perform them in front of her family and friend’s families. To this day, Maddy and friends alike find her old home movies entertaining.
In addition to competing in gymnastics at the NCAA Division I-A level and making the EAGL All-Academic Team four years straight, Maddy kept acting a priority. In her collegiate acting career, Maddy received the "Best Performance Award" for her role as Sylvia in "Sylvia" from Lab! Theater in 2004. The award is given to one University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill drama student at the end of each school year based on votes from the directors and other leaders in the drama program.
Other than acting, Maddy is an elite gymnast. At the age of four, Maddy started her career in gymnastics that would eventually take her to compete for the University of North Carolina Tarheels. She fell in love with gymnastics one night when her family walked past Ron Galimore’s Athletic Training Center in Tallahassee. She immediately wanted to be one of the girls tumbling across the mats so her mother Marilyn brought her inside to watch. Once inside, she knew she wanted to stay involved! After attending a trial class, Maddy’s coach informed her mom that she was too advanced for class and that she needed to be enrolled in the gymnastics team. Her love was ignited!
Maddy followed gymnastics wherever it took her. She quickly went through the various training levels and eventually turned down her high school’s European trip to participate in the National Elite Championships. Maddy’s decision was right on because she won the senior division! Thanks to one of the amazing parents that wanted to recognize Maddy’s achievement, a banner still hangs in her home gym, the Tallahassee Gymnastics Center.
Maddy enjoys: praying, improv acting, making up dances with her friends, singing, playing guitar or piano, rock climbing, water skiing, anything athletically challenging, learning Russian, traveling, site seeing, reading, shopping with her mom, and watching her favorite comedy TV shows "Friends" and "The Daily Show."
